Treating yourself to a day of beauty, whether it be a facial or a blowout, is supposed to be something we all look forward to. Most of the time we leave the salon feeling rejuvenated and ready to take on the world. However, the unfortunate truth is if you’ve ever had a negative beauty experience, we can positively say that you’re not alone. The good news is that most of the time these experiences are a one-off. Check out 3 horror stories of beauty treatments gone wrong below.
A Facial Ruined My Skin
“I decided that I was going to treat myself to a relaxing facial. Little did I know that this would be one of the most scarring experiences, both literally and figuratively. The facial started out great, and immediately after I felt so happy with how my skin looked. Just a couple of days later, my skin began to break out profusely, and in areas that I’ve never had an issue with. I contacted the salon immediately to try to understand what could be causing this. They informed me that it was a case of my very sensitive skin and that a standard extraction would solve the problem. Needless to say, it didn’t. After the second appointment, my skin only got worse. I was forced to wear a mask and patiently wait until my skin went back to normal.” – Farrah M.
Color Mix Up
“For the longest time, I was wanting to change up my hair color and go for something a little richer and darker. I had always been so scared of dyeing my hair and causing any damage to it, but I just decided that I would go ahead and bite the bullet. When I got to my hair salon, the only person who had time to fit me in was someone I’ve never been with. This wasn’t ideal, but we picked a color and got going with the process. I was feeling really excited when we started, however, the euphoria quickly subsided when I looked in the mirror after washing the dye out. My hair was bright orange! I started crying immediately. He left me for a few minutes and when he returned he emotionlessly said to me that he mixed up the colors. This was definitely the first and last time I ever considered coloring my hair.” – Nadeen E.
My Legs Were on Fire
“When I went in for my regular laser session, the last thing I would’ve ever expected was that I would leave with feeling like my legs were doused in flames. This was my fifth session and everything started out perfectly normal. As the session progressed, I started to feel like it was hurting a little more than usual. I attributed this to the fact that maybe the aesthetician just increased the charge, so I said nothing of it. After I left it took maybe about 20 minutes before I felt incredible amounts of heat radiating off of my legs. To make a long story short, I made the rookie mistake of still being a little too tan for my session. This resulted in laser burns and once the scabs healed up, I was left with serious hypopigmentation. It took about 8 months before my skin tone evened out.” – Anonymous
