The Clear Skin Diet

Yes, you can slather on every product under the sun onto your skin. Or try to maintain a stress free lifestyle, all in effort to have a glowing complexion. But the reality is, when it comes to your skin, the saying ‘you are what you eat’ really does hold value. The types of food we eat will have a direct correlation to not only how we physically feel, but also the appearance and health of our skin. Check out some foods you can incorporate into your new clear skin diet.

Red Peppers
Vitamin C really is a holy grail product, whether you ingest it or apply it to your face. Based on studies, higher intakes of vitamin C resulted in appearances that were less wrinkled and more hydrated. Red peppers are a great option to turn to when seeking out vitamin C, they contain 3 times the amount of an orange! If you’re not a fan or red peppers, try seeking out lemons or grapefruits.

Water
This one may seem obvious. But it is tried and tested. Increasing your daily water intake can drastically improve your skin’s overall physiology, especially if you’re not a water drinker. Almost immediate results can be seen if you try to drink around 2 liters a day.

Berries
Blueberries, blackberries, and the almighty goji berry are jam packed with nutrients and all hold very high antioxidant levels. Antioxidants are natural anti-inflammatories that help the body heal and repair itself, whilst also protecting against damage.

Fish
Fish already holds a long list of benefits for your body and overall health. However cold water fish like salmon, mackerel, and sardines have high amounts of fatty acids, like omega-3, which work to retain your skin’s natural oil barrier and as a result combating dryness.

Green Tea
Adding a few glasses of green tea into your diet is another excellent way to improve your skin. The natural nutrients released all work to improve your skin’s elasticity and can decrease roughness and scaling. Not to mention it is a natural soother and will also aid in digestion.

Non-Dairy Milk
Drinking non dairy milk doesn’t exactly help improve your skin, but eliminating dairy milks can. By eliminating dairy partially from your diet, you will be less prone to have acne breakouts. There are studies that show that both skimmed milk and dairy milk can result in acne, most likely due to the whey found in it. However choosing an alternative like almond milk, can help you maintain an even and balanced complexion.
