What's in My Skin Fridge?

Think your fridge is only good for keeping food fresh? Think again. Some dermatologists believe that it’s best for certain skincare products to be kept in your cooler. Some believe there’s absolutely no point. But storing your skincare favourites in your fridge might actually prolong their shelf-life, and essentially maintain their effectiveness-at least we think they do.

Do all my products need to be kept in my fridge?

No, there’s no need. But if you’re using natural skin care products, the benefits are fantastic. Any product that’s made with food ingredients, such as natural hair oils or face masks, will definitely benefit from being kept in your fridge.

However, constant exposure to changes in temperature (taking your products in and out of the fridge too much) can damage your products. We recommend keeping products that work best when cooled in your fridge, other than that, there’s no reason to store your entire skincare routine in the cooler.

How do I keep my products fresh?

Your products should always be stored in cool and dry places, even if you’re not using a fridge. Sitting in hot and damp environments can cause your products to break down and lose their potency.

Here’s what’s in the Source Beauty Team’s fridge:

Natavis, Niacinamide 10% Facial Serum
This serum will strengthen skin’s protective barrier, soothe the skin and minimize the appearance of enlarged pores. Storing a facial serum in a chilled area will allow it to last longer and prevent it from oxidizing.

Sensera Aromatherapy, Frankincense Facial Treatment
Similar to the aforementioned reason, keeping any facial oils or serums cool will only lengthen its shelf life, allowing you to truly get the most out of your products. Infused with frankincense and argan essential oils, this oil blend works to fill in fine lines and reduce the appearance of wrinkles.

Neuth France, Restorative System Anti-Ageing Eye Cream
The skin around your eyes is the thinnest on your entire body. As a result of this you’re definitely more prone to noticing puffiness, fine lines, and dark circles. Keeping your eye creams cold will not only help the product last longer, but the chilled product and cooling sensation will help reduce puffiness and brighten a tired appearance. This eye cream will reduce the depth and appearance of wrinkles and will help tighten and firm the upper eyelid.

Hathor, Sacred Rose Floral Water
Facial mists often deliver a quick burst of refreshment and nutrients. A cooled facial water is ideal for those with sensitive or inflamed skin. A little spray can instantly soothe and tame any discomfort. This mist is formulated with natural distilled rose damascena blossoms that have a highly moisturizing, stimulating, and therapeutic effect.

Crystal Muse, Rose Quartz Jade Crystal Roller
Facial tools such as crystal rollers, ice globes, and gua sha’s have gained increasing popularity within the skincare and beauty world. Using these tools help relax muscles and will encourage lymphatic drainage and in turn improve circulation. Putting your crystal roller in your skin fridge will aid in reducing puffiness and soothe your skin.

Maybelline New York, Lash Sensational Washable Mascara Intense
Unlike your other products, mascara is a product that needs to be replaced far more often. It’s recommended to replace your mascara every three months. When it’s exposed to heat or humidity, bacteria growth accelerates. Keeping it stored in your skin fridge will not only help the integrity of the product but it will also inhibit any bacterial growth.
